Felicidades Amigos!! (G'Day Mates!)
Sorry we have been so long in sending another update but getting ourselves
organized has taken up quite a bit of our time and energy lately. Murray has
had his CDL license for a few weeks already and I passed ALL FIVE of my Texas
CDL permit tests just last week. I had spent much of the previous weeks
organizing our new computer/TV/DVD player and printer, a digital camera, and
various other appliances, etc. Murray then picked me up on his way through from
Laredo,Texas to Little Rock, Arkansas. In Little Rock we continued getting
organized with getting a 12 volt refrigerator and I had some "interior
designing" to do (just because we're truckies doesn't mean we can't do it in
style). There is a 24 hour WalMart near the depot there - that's a story just in
itself! As Little Rock is the company headquarters, we met up there with many
other very nice drivers from NZ, Oz, S Africa, UK, Cananda, etc. We were then
dispatched back to Dallas (I drove part of the way!!) where we spent New Years
with my brother Mark and Cathy (great parties). After which we delivered a few
loads around North Dallas and then were sent with a load to Laredo, Texas. And
that is where we are now. We are waiting for our next assignment which should
come up later on today. We are about to go get some breakfast and go shop for
some organic groceries afterwards.
So, we're just about organized with everything. It is great fun to sit in
our little "house truck" with all necessities and amenities pretty much
contained and drive all over the country. The company is trying to give us as
much work in Texas as possible as my commercial driving permit may not be
honoured in other states. So I'm practising and learning as much as possible as
quickly as possible as I still need to pass a practical test to get my full
CDL. That test involves parallel parking and backing the truck with trailer (I
can't wait to tell Gary McCormack that I've passed THAT test - he believes women
can't back a trailer - HAH!) as well as several other interesting and
challenging feats.

The photo of the truck exterior is self-explanatory but the 2 interior
shots may be difficult to interpret. They are of our sofa/bunk/living room area
behind the truck seats. The ceiling is quite high which makes it feel roomier -
Murray's bunk folds down off the back wall from above, over the one seen in the
photo. As the truck interior is beige and we are on an adventure, I have gone
for a "safari" look. My brother has suggested I accessorize with Tiki torches
and palm plants. Cathy suggested I put up a "velvet Elvis". I'm still
considering those options. However, Murray has threatened to leave if I put any
more stuff in here! (Interestingly, when I suggested a large poster of Pamela
Anderson he didn't object much to that.) There is a proper small closet, 2
other small cupboards, a space for the fridge and lots of other cubby holes all
over. Everything fits well. We're really very comfortable.
I'm sure we're forgetting something but we're getting very hungry so we'll
sign off for now. We're really having a great time but think of all of you
often and hope your Holidays were lovely and that you're all having a great Kiwi
summer so far. We'll write again soon.
With warmest regards,
Margot and Murray
