Fishing Trip
July 29-31st

Why not take the Friday off and lets head off to French Pass in the morning, have lunch then we can have a fish in the afternoon, I suggested to Bill. Never seen a guy so agreeable!. Travelled there in absolute luxury ( in Bills new Pajero) arriving at lunch time. Cookie with mate Darren were already there as were Joe, Jane and Casey.  A quick bite then off around D’Urville to catch our supper.

Back to the house late afternoon for a drink or two and catch up with everyone as they arrived. Soon to arrive were Toddy and Heather, Peter and Helen, Grant and Dawn with friends Morgan and Trish and Paul and Sharon. Dave and Shona arrived a bit later than planned, despite Dave’s best efforts to get away early (what it is to be indispensable!).

Bob and Jill being the last to arrive.

Saturday morning dawned bright and clear, perfect for fishing. So all aboard the six boats and off to the secret spots. The cod seemed to be abundant and even some brim being caught.  The weather started to close in later in the afternoon so for Bill and I it was back to the house to prepare the gourmet meal for all. Wild pork (thanks Grant) mutton, roast spuds and vegies with apple crumble and ice cream to finish ( thanks to Bill’s Jill). Pealing the onions I haven’t cried so much since I sold the Lada!!.

It was just great the way everyone pitched in and did the dishes etc after.

While everyone was sitting around the table we took the opportunity to give out some silly prizes.

Golf (Best 9 iron shot)     Jill Dickinson.

Biggest Fish.                      The McDowell boat. (Moki)

Best Value.                        Paul the diver (4 crayfish)

Most Unusual.                  Cookie. (something caught on a rod, yeah right)

Most Dedicated Fisherperson.  Casey. Was seen fishing off the wharf after being out fishing in the boat all day.

Thanks Paul for cooking up two of your crayfish for supper, yummy, even Big Dave enjoyed them, most unusual!.

And so after a tipple or two, an attempt at a sing a-long we stumbled off to bed looking forward to another enjoyable day on the high seas.

Sunday dawned fine despite absolutely pouring down during the night. All ventured out for another fish with most returning about midday to pack up, clean up and head for home.

A most enjoyable weekend with good weather good fishing and a great group of people.

Thanks to all for your company and look forward to doing it all again next year.

Cheers Ian.

Ps. On the French Pass Rd we picked up a trailer number plate which was duly handed into the Nelson Police station, if it is yours just bring plenty of loose change to the next meeting!!.
