Anything play day (Kikiwa) Print
Anything Play Day.  Sunday 31st July.
(photos here)

A large number of 4 x 4’s gathered at Kikiwa for fun, challenges and instruction.
After a welcome and some idea of how we might spend the day, we were divided into groups. Those with lots of experience and no nerves disappeared in various directions. Sav, our trusty leader, was left with 5 vehicles, passengers and drivers, to encourage and experience some basic (challenging!!) exercises.

Firstly, sidling – looked easy but was somewhat disconcerting, next backing up a steep track – would help if you could see where you were going! Next something a bit more difficult – driving up a steep bank and turning onto a road at the top. After a few efforts this was achieved. Now for playing in water, mixed with mud and steep awkward exits – easy when you are towed out!

After lunch we followed our leader up the hill to the repeater station. We learnt the benefit of good mud tyres to maintain traction – or appreciated the vehicle in front rescuing you when your back wheels are off the track. Wonderful view down the valley from the summit. Sav disappeared down the track to see if it was suitable for us. At least it was all-downhill. One corner involved some manpower to enable us to turn. Then the greatest entertainment of the day – watching the bold and brave ascend in a variety of ways this incredibly steep, narrow and greasy track. Not something I really want to do. The day finished with more playing in the river, and thanking my mates for getting me out of a tight spot by spraying them liberally with river and mud. Sorry guys!!

A great day and thankyou Sav for your patience and encouragement. My husband really enjoyed his day as passenger and was very complimentary and encouraging.
