TRIP REPORT: FISHING TRIP
Date: 26th - 28th March 2010
Trip leader: Bill Knowles & Rick Fisher
Trip report: Jill Knowles
Friday all packed up, boat in tow and headed out of Nelson by 3.30pm for our yearly fishing trip to French Pass. Stopped at Okiwi Bay to stretch the legs and have a cuppa. Arrived to sunny French Pass just after 5.30pm looking down into the bay, spotted the Fishers cruising through the pass, even a person fishing from a Kayak.
Unloaded supplies and settled into lodge, waited for the keen fishing people to return from their day at sea. One by one the boats turned up with many a fishing story and their quota of fish. Fish in freezer, boat all washed down, time for an ale and a bit to eat. Lovely evening around the lodge kitchen table, but slowly people took themselves off to bed to dream about their next fishing day.
Saturday woke to a lovely still day but by the time we had breakfast, got the boats to ramp the wind had got up. Six boats, seventeen people made their way out to sea and tried to keep out of the wind which wasn’t easy. Had a great day out, got our quota and headed back to the ramp 2.30ish, everyone back in by 5.00pm. Another cleanup, drinks, big feed, lots of yarns with lovely company, bed late.
Sunday, sea rocking and rolling and very windy so not putting boat in. Joe and Jayne had net out so they had to brave the weather, but couldn’t find the net.
Murray & Geoff also had put a net out, tried to get to it, but the sea was too rough for their boat so Joe collected them in his boat. Well worth the trip: the net loaded with a variety of fish, even a shark.
Had the big tidy up at the lodge, said our good-byes, and headed for home before lunch. A relaxing weekend had by all. So if you want a weekend off from the big city with wonderful company, book next year for fishing trip.
