"Phil Collins, was born to play the drums; of that there is no doubt. His timing, sense of rhythm, and sheer inventiveness have given him a unique style."
I got this from the Internet and although it’s talking about Phil the musician the same applies to Phil the Trials driver and 5 times NZ Champ in his class. Phil showed his timing, rhythm, inventiveness & style as he took the kids for a lap or two around his property in his machine. There were a lot of very happy children leaving Phil’s property after the clubs fire works night. With all safety precautions taken, they were all given a chance of a ride at what pace they liked, and not one was disappointed. This gets me down to why I’m doing the trip report. As I was leaving, Graham Polglaze asked me to tell Avril Todd she was to do the trip report, because she was the biggest kid of all. Now being her nice brother-in-law and given the fact that Avril works about twelve hours a day six days a week, I volunteered to do it for her, as long as Vince buys her a trials truck. Mmmm!
Graham & Phil did a good job of the Fireworks Night. With a bonfire stacked and ready, the kids running havoc around the hills we adults sat down for a bit of socializing with nibbles & drinks. Graham cranked up the Barbie, (that’s a cooking device not a doll) and following some very nice sausages, patties & those infernal salads that are supposed to be good for me, Phil took the kids for their rides.
Around eight thirty the fire was lit, and there was an instant flock of people & chairs in that direction, to ward off the chill of the evening’s dying breeze. Fireworks were all successfully ignited with mixed reactions to the quality of some of them. Sam Watt & I were not impressed with some of ours, which went "Poof" and then did little else. We correctly named them the "Poofters."
There were thirty plus people at the event, which was a major success, and come March 2009 when the Nelson round of the NZ Trials calendar happens, I’m sure Phil is going to have a group of smiling Nelson kids there cheering him on. I hope Graham brings his Barbie (that’s the cooking device not his wife Carol. I guess at home she is the cooking device).
Thanks for a good night guys.
