TRIP REPORT: KIKIWA PLAY DAY

Last time we went to the Kikiwa Play Day, we were last to arrive, and had to write the trip report! This time, determined not to be last we set out from home on time, and arrived at Kikiwa ten minutes before the scheduled meeting time. We were first to arrive, and … had to write the trip report! Next time we will get there in the middle of the bunch!

The day was planned by Sav, Scotty and team, and we were joined by approximately five vehicles from the Marlborough club. The mission was to enjoy ourselves on the many 4WD tracks on the property. In the morning we split into two groups, one taking the high road and the other heading straight for the mud paddocks! We went with the group that turned left at the quarry, that first track giving us a few challenges in the ruts at the top, but nothing compared with driving through gorse that totally overwhelmed the vehicles. At least we weren’t driving a 4-wheeler! The gorse had grown considerably since we were there in June and had all but obliterated the tracks in places.

All the vehicles met down in the mud paddocks before lunch and there were plenty of challenges in the stream, going up and down the river banks, and of course the challenge of trying to make it through the bog without needing a tow! By lunch time almost everyone had needed some kind of help!
We all adjourned to the bach for lunch, then in the afternoon some returned to 4WD for more fun, and others left (including us) to make the most of the long weekend.
