Several weeks ago I made a couple of rash statements to Mike ( I really should know better by now )
1. I wanted to be more confident and capable driving off road.
2. I wanted to be out of my comfort zone more often.
 
I wasn't necessarily thinking of these two things being connected but Mike obviously was and he came up with the Mag and Turbo Fun Day.
' It'll be perfect ' he said, so after some gentle persuasion and a couple of practice runs, the next Sunday saw me behind the wheel of the Nissan and heading up the valley.

I had the idea, I don't know where from, that this was a follow the leader sort of day, driving around the property, choosing what you wanted to have a go at.
So I wasn't expecting to see marked out sections plus marshalls = competition.
There went my plan of driving the real simple stuff and letting Mike take over when things got a bit harder.
It was all or nothing!

After a briefing by Sav, where he explained the rules and introduced the long suffering marshalls, we started on the first four sections.These were mostly based in and around the creek with short banks, the odd bog and a loop through the trees. There was also a sidling part which I was relieved to find wasn't as bad as I thought.

The day continued through the remaining eight sections with the banks getting higher, the creek getting narrower and the bogs getting deeper.
We finished with the speed run where the Nelson boys showed us how it was done ( My time would have probably been better if I hadn't had a moment of geographical confusion ! )

The final results showed the Marlb and Nelson drivers sharing the top six places.
Thanks to the Nelson Club for hosting this event and to Sav, Brownie, Scotty and Cooze for all the organising and marshalling.
This was an awesome day, great for confidence boosting and having fun.
And yes I was out of my comfort zone more than once, I havent checked with my co-driver if he was out of his!
