Date: 03/08/2008
Trip Leader: Bob
Trip Report: Shirley Hollis
Informed by Bob (via Nelson Evening Mail) Saturday evening that Kerr’s Hill is closed until Monday will have to go the long way around, as we are on the way to the Kohatu to meet Tony my brother we see Bob travelling towards us, he stops to let us know that the other road is closed we have to go via Kerr’s Hill which is open. Still make it to meeting point in good time, first ones there as Bob has gone to get the key. We wait until 10am with only 7 trucks we head up to the Rainbow station to find some snow. The first sight of snow on the road was coming into Sedgemere, about a k past Sedgemere the snow had got quite deep about 300mm and just got deeper & deeper; it wasn’t long before some put chains on to see how far they could go.
Jasmine Krystal and I got the sledges out and played on a nice slope for about an hour while 3 trucks tried to go on with chains. The Range Rover slid off the road and had to be towed back on, then Bob tried to get past our parked truck and slid off the road too, With a quick recovery back to Sedgemere Hut for afternoon tea, as we had heard the two day trippers had turned around. All in all a great day, good to have snow to play in.
Thanks Bob
