Date: 23rd May 2010
Trip leader: Sav & team
Trip report: Miles Anderson
Off to Kikiwa early so I could change my tyres before the 9.30 start which Sav & THE TEAM had extremely well organized, as was the whole day.
The turnout was terrific with about 28 to 30 trucks competing over the 10 courses THE TEAM, oops, and Sav had set out to provide great challenges for all.
It was cold and fine but the ground was damp from recent rain and the strategic bogs in most runs just got deeper as the day went on with most having trouble sooner or later.
A new animal was seen streaking through the bush and streams, a rare “Scottyjeephoon” which are very fast, shy, elusive and have no regard for other peoples property. Its vision was suspect, alas, as it headbutted a large tree, stopping it in its tracks.
Learner girls in the ultimate 4x4 buggy were heard laughing and yelling at every course and must have had the most fun.Mike Holmes’ daughter drove dad’s truck well and apparently got just as wound up as dad trying to overcome the tracks.
Leo lent the red Toyota to his son who wouldn’t give it back until the last tricky course with trees that jumped out and bent things. Leo put his foot down and drove it as he was quite capable of bending his own truck if need be.
Tracy had a good day in the “Red Jeep” - handling the banks and bogs with ease, all the time
patiently instructing her passenger and telling him to buy his own b!@@&y Jeep.
Thank you Sav and THE TEAM for a tremendous day enjoyed by all and finishing in time for a debrief at the Belgrove clubrooms.
